5 Entertaining Upcoming Cartoons

It has been quite awhile since I posted an article on this blog due to certain circumstances and being busy writing for GameSkinny.com, but I can’t really talk about other entertainment there. I wanted to take this chance to talk a bit about western animation, so here are five upcoming cartoons which look like they could be relatively entertaining.

Castlevania

This series arrives on Netflix this week, on July 7th. Based on the popular Konami video game series of the same name and created by Adi Shankar who also created the critically acclaimed mature fan film Power/Rangers, and just recently announced an Assassin’s Creed animated series as well. The Castlevania animated series will be based mostly on Castlevania 3, while also borrowing some elements from other games in the series. The cast includes Richard Armitage (Captain America, The Hobbit) as Trevor Belmont, Graham McTavish (The Hobbit, Creed) as Dracula, and James Callis (Battlestar Galactica, Merlin) as Alucard. The four episode animated series is sure to be an interesting adaptation of the beloved series.

OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes

After a several years, a mobile app, and a console game, this new Cartoon Network original will finally be released. Originally known by the much better name of Lakewood Plaza Turbo, OK K.O.! is a love letter of sorts the video games, manga, and nerd culture of the 80’s and 90’s. In the short, the character K.O. is voiced by Stephanie Naldony — best known the original English voice of kid and teen Gohan in the Funimation dub of Dragon Ball Z — but in the series, he will also be voiced by Courtenay Taylor in some episodes. OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes will air on Cartoon Network on August 1, 2017.

DuckTales

I’m not much of a fan of the original DuckTales, but in a post Gravity Falls world, I think this reboot has potential to be a lot better than the original. With an all star cast featuring the voice talents of people like David Tennant (Doctor Who, Jessica Jones), Kate Micucci (Garfunkel & Oates), and Danny Pudi (Community), DuckTales is guaranteed to regain the popularity it once had, if not attract more. DuckTales will premiere on Disney XD on August 12, 2017.

Big Hero 6

While I only thought the movie was average at best, I do think it has a lot of heart. I hope the series can help carry on the same spirit the movie conveys. Not that much is known about the series itself yet, but most of the cast of the movie will be returning. Having already been green lit for a second season ahead of its first season premiere, this series may give the hero team a bit more of a popularity boost– and as always, more merchandise. Big Hero 6 the series is slated to premiere on Disney XD sometime in Fall 2017.

Spider-Man

I know I know, this is the umpteenth Spider-Man animated series we’ve had, but it looks like it could be promising and maybe almost at the level of the beloved Spectactular Spider-Man animated series. The animation style seems to be a knock off of Studio Mir’s style as seen in Avatar: The Legend of Korra and Voltron: Legendary Defender, just with a bit less quality. With Robbie Daymond (Prompto in Final Fantasy XV, Akechi in Persona 5), Max Mittelman (Saitama in One Punch Man, Ryuji in Persona 5), and plenty of other notable voice talent, it could be a big hit. If nothing else, it should at least be better than its well disliked predecessor, Ultimate Spider-Man. Spider-Man will premiere on Disney XD sometime later this Summer.

Bonus: 1 Awesome Short Not Yet Green Lit For Series.

Infinity Train

Featuring the voice talents of Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us) and Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), this may be one of the best animated shorts Cartoon Network has ever released. You’ll have to see it to believe it though.

That’s all for now! I’ll have a few more articles in the future, but until then feel free to check out my work at GameSkinny.com!
