The big sport-ball game was this past weekend, and with every big sport-ball game comes advertisements for new and/or upcoming products. This particular piece will focus on some, but not all, of the movies, TV Shows, and video games advertised during the big game.
We start this list off with a comedy reboot of a 90’s TV Show, similar to the 21 Jump Street reboot. Starring Zac Efron and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, both of which have starred in some hilarious movies lately, so this movie could prove to be another hit for both of them.
Fate of the Furious
Another upcoming movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. From what I hear, the Fast & Furious franchise now seeks to be more insane with each entry, and this one looks to be the craziest one yet. It may just be entertaining for the craziness alone, if you don’t like cars.
Ghost in the Shell
This whitewashed live action adaptation of an anime movie, starring Scarlett Johansson, seems to be leaving fans confused. On one hand, live action anime adaptations from Hollywood have never been good, and whitewashing is a big problem. One the other hand, from what we’ve seen so far, the movie seems to be relatively true to the source material. At this point, it’s a movie that could go either way.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
We get another trailer for the upcoming sequel to one of Marvel’s hit movies. This time, we see that the character Yondu, will now be officially joining the crew, along with Nebula and new character, Mantis. We also got more of Baby Groot, because everybody loves him and Disney/Marvel wants to make sure they milk the character dry and sell all those toys.
What looked like a trailer for Alien: Covenant at first was actually a trailer for a brand new sci-fi movie with a somewhat similar concept. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, 7 Rebecca Ferguson.
(Couldn’t find the particular TV spot, so this is just the previously released trailer)A short trailer for the upcoming show set in an X-Men universe, but not the ones shown in any of the movies. Premieres Wednesday night on FX.
Another trailer for Hugh Jackman’s last outing as Wolverine, as well as the first rated R movie to feature the character. There has been quite some hype for this movie, so hopefully in won’t disappoint fans.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
A 5th Pirates of the Caribbean movie, which looks interesting to say the least. It’s hard to believe that this franchise went beyond both a third and fourth entry.
Stranger Things 2
A short trailer for the hit Netflix original series of Summer 2016. Since the series is (presumably) still filming, we didn’t get much, but we did get a glimpse of the crew in Ghostbusters costumes. We also now know that the second series will premiere on Halloween. A longer wait than expected, but also a more appropriate premiere date for a series like this.
Another advertisement for Nintendo’s new console, showing plenty of Zelda as well as games revealed at January’s press conference. This advertisement also showed off all of the ways the console could be played, both of the different colors it can come in, and the pro controller. It may still not have the best launch lineup, but after March 3rd only time will tell if this console will succeed.
World of Tanks
This was just an odd one I noticed. I’ve never met anyone who plays this game, but for some reason I see the name a lot. This is some mobile game with tanks which had not one but two commercials, one after the other. Are people really playing this game?
Are there any particular advertisements that you enjoyed wile watching the big game, or do they just not seem as good anymore because of the internet? Let me know in the comments and don’t forget to like & follow!
